Wacky Wednesday: International Museum Day

Right on the heels of last week's National Tourism Week, we find ourselves celebrating International Museum Day. I'm a big fan of the Indianapolis Museum of Art (pictured above). It's been my sanctuary since I was old enough to drive. I'd go and hang out on the grounds if the weather permitted, or if not, I'd immerse myself in the art on the 3rd floor. Sometimes my sister would join me, other times, it was enough to be with the art.

Now that I'm older (and living back in Indy) I've become a member of the IMA. It's important to me that I support the organizations that I utilize. I want them to be around for my kids too. This year, I chose an Associate Membership for our family. This not only allows us 6 tickets to every new exhibit, but also allows us reciprocity at 400 museums throughout the country. You should see if this option is available where you live. We were able to go to the Maryland Science Center for free this year! If you've ever met my oldest, you know what a big deal THAT was. We've also seen an Andy Warhol exhibit and the Madeline Albright's Pins exhibit. Both were very worthwhile. Plus we get a discount at the restaurant and shop. The membership has already paid for itself this year.

Wherever you find yourself this International Museum Day, take a moment to visit one of the museums in your neck of the woods. If you're not sure what's in your neighborhood, or you want to find something a little more off-beat, check out www.museumspot.com. You can search by State, Artist or Specialty. You never know what wonders you may find.
