Happy Birthday To Me

So my husband knows me, really well. And he knows exactly what this girl wanted for her birthday this year: a zoom lens for my Nikon DX40. I am falling in love with my camera all over again! Check out these photos from the sidelines yesterday. (Our boy is #81.)

I just love it! AND I can't believe how much I enjoy watching these football games. I mean, honestly, it's not like the 8 and 9 year olds are experts in the game by any stretch. But they are so fun to watch. And there is nothing like seeing your kid make a great play!

Football Approacheth

We went and got Hayes's gear for football season this weekend, and he has "tryouts" this week. Opening day is somewhere in August. We're hoping for coach Stan again - he was amazing - even if he is only going to be assistant coach this year. Hayes learned some excellent fundamentals and always had fun. He absolutely loves this game.

I'm looking forward to another fun year. And now that we have a bit of a better camera lens, perhaps some better photos too. ;) Watch out BJFL - here we come.

Super Scarves 2012

I recently discovered that the knit-signal has been lit for Super Bowl 2012 (you know, like the bat-signal?). Indianapolis is hosting the Super Bowl in 2012 and wants to give away 8,000 scarves to all those who volunteer to help with the Super Bowl happenings. As such, they are asking for knitters to donate their time and hand knit a scarf or two in order for the committee to provide them to all their volunteers.

For more information, you can check out the Host Committee's website. There is no set pattern, but there are patterns available on the website for those who may need a suggestion. There are, however, approved yarn colors (which are, coincidentally, blue and white). I will definitely be sending in a scarf or two. I just love being involved in stuff like this.

Just taking a little time to get some scrapping done . . . if you built it, they will come.

Football Scrimmage

Hayes got to play his first game - a scrimmage - where he FINALLY got to hit the other team. It was spectacular! I have to confess, I love this game.

See that Colt, #10? That's my boy! He took his man down.

And there's the coach, letting him know the play and that he has to watch the play before he runs. It's a hard lesson to learn, but we're getting there.

And there's Daddy and Hayes. We have a lot to learn, but it's going to be a great year. After all, we're on the Colts!

Football Season in Indiana

I thought that baseball in The 'Burg was a little high strung. True, we got a coach who was about as loose as I've ever seen, so maybe we dodged a bullet there. But I hadn't met the folks at the Junior Football League yet.

It could be that I never had brothers, or never played football myself, but when I received an e-mail letting me know I should come to pick up Hayes's tackle gear, I put it on my calendar. When the day arrived, I parked in the lot which is much too far away from the entrance of the Rec Center and ran through a driving rain to retrieve said equipment. I followed the signs to the designated area, filled out a form I assumed needed filling, as there was no one at the desk to help you (or remind you which "league" you signed up for), stood in line in a hot (you know this was the tipping point), smelly locker-room for 25 minutes imagining how many other very sweaty boys have worn that same equipment that I, now, am supposed to put on my child repeatedly (and I assure you - it has never been sanitized).

Needless to say, it would be helpful to know that you must HAVE YOUR SON WITH YOU to get said equipment. It would also be good for the person distributing said equipment not to look at you like you really don't value your son's sport showing up like that and all, especially since the information for scheduling pick up was sent weeks after registration and you had to find a date when you were actually in town and available to come pick it up. And just to make you feel a little worse, they insinuate that your child might not make it to evaluations before the draft (yes, the draft, for the 7 year olds) because you made this gross error.

Clearly, they don't understand that I schedule our summer in February, as I believe most mothers do. They need a "league mom" for all of us ignorant ones who've never had the opportunity to enjoy their company. Let's just say, I wasn't the only mother there who had made this terrible mistake. 30 minutes of my life I am never going to get back.

I can't wait for opening day.
