When It Rains...

Rain. It's a rare commodity in these parts. We're way below the norm and our poor garden is so sad. So today, when I heard the rain outside, my heart soared. Never mind that my headache was a combination of the weather and muscle tension. It was good to have the rain. And then I heard the sound of the sprinkler against the sliding glass door. I heard the the neighborhood kids giggling and screaming and thought it was delightful that they were having so much fun in the rain. It was about time.

And then I heard the sound again. It was coming from the garage. I opened the door to find my child with the hose in hand drenching the other kids in the garage. I was stunned. Who does that?!? The neighbor kids made themselves scarce with a quickness. After chewing my son up and spitting him back out, we assessed the damages together. Half the garage was soaked; some of my art work, some antique furniture, all the sporting equipment, the new crib, him, all of it wet. I was overwhelmed. How could he have thought this was ok?!?

My head was throbbing, my heart was aching and I saw my entire week vanishing into this oblivion of garage cleaning damage control. I came inside to throw some dinner in the oven and calm down. I looked at the dog and screamed, "Can it get any worse?" She promptly threw up. Apparently she ate some pasta with red sauce at some point today. Perfect.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

We are getting a real winter snow storm around here today and I have to say, I'm glad! I know it messes everything up, and if this happens next week, when I become a working girl, I won't be so happy about it all. But for me, THIS is winter! And it's been a while since we've seen this amount of snow. We are expected to get up to 5" throughout the day, and I hope they are right. I snapped this photo about 15 minutes ago. I'm hoping for some sledding, snow-angel-making, snowman-building, winter time. I know my little man is right there with me.

As for the girls, they've adopted a new space.

Apparently the bed in front of the fire wasn't close enough! Poor little short haired pups. And just so the record is straight - they have both taken their turn on the hearth. You can't blame them!

It's Snowing

I awoke to snow dusting the ground this morning. It's so beautiful and peaceful. There is talk that we could (and I DO have my fingers crossed) get up to an inch today. I love the snow. And so do the neighbor kids. By this afternoon it'll be filled with bootprints from the boys in the neighborhood having a good romp thought our yard (which is just as heart-melting as seeing the snow fall); but right now it's smooth and spotless, quiet and still. Just what I need at this frantic time of year. And maybe, just maybe, we'll even be lucky enough to have snow on Christmas.
